Medical experts now believe that it may be more important to determine one’s non-high-density lipoprotein (non-HDL) than simply calculating cholesterol ratio to predict cardiovascular disease risk. Non-HDL and cholesterol ratio have proven to be better heart disease risk predictors than the bad or lower-density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol level.
Today, there are supplements to lower cholesterol to limit the risk of heart disease. Whether you make use supplements or recipes to lower cholesterol, the most important thing is staying safe.

What is Non-HDL Cholesterol?
Non-HDL cholesterol is simply the difference between total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. The result from the lipid panel or lipid profile often includes four parameters: total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. If your total cholesterol value is 195 and that of the HDL cholesterol is 42, your non-HDL cholesterol will be 195 minus 42, which is 153.
The value of non-HDL cholesterol shows all the major lipoprotein connected with a great danger of heart disease, making it easy to predict one’s risk of cardiovascular disease in the future. Non-HDL cholesterol should not be confused for other cholesterols as there are great differences between them.
Other cholesterol and what they mean
· Low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
Sometimes refers to as “bad” cholesterol, LDL can cause the arteries (blood vessels responsible for oxygen-rich blood delivery to the body tissues from the heart) to become narrow by building on the walls. Trans fats and saturated fats are fats connected to LDL cholesterol and should be greatly reduced in diets.
· High-density lipoprotein (HDL)
HDL is usually called the “good” cholesterol because it removes other cholesterol from the arteries, including LDL. While LDL dumps its fat on the walls of the arteries, HDL clears them and other cholesterols. With this fact, experts believed that increasing HDL could reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
· Triglycerides:
Triglycerides are fats gotten from foods, and they are crucial because most body fats exist in this form. The level can pile-up when one consumes calories more than the body can burn off, and if not controlled, high triglyceride level presence in the can cause heart disease.
What is the healthy Non-HDL Cholesterol Level?

The unit of measuring cholesterol is the milligrams per deciliter or mg/dL, and keeping this below the healthy level is important. Healthy non-HDL cholesterol levels can be categorized based on gender and age. For 19 years and below (male or female), keep your non-HDL level below 120mg/dL.
If you are 20 years and above (male or female), keeping your non-HDL cholesterol level below 130mg/dL is important.
Some factors that could increase Cholesterol
One of the major factors that increase cholesterol is a poor diet. DASH diet plan can help to reduce cholesterol. Factors that could increase your cholesterol include:
· Lack of exercise
· Smoking
· Diabetes
· Genes
· Age
· Obesity
How to Control or lower Non-HDL Cholesterol
To control or lower your non-HDL cholesterol level, do the following:
· Eat heart-healthy foods like dash diet
· Exercise more often
· Stop smoking
· Reduce the intake of animal fats
· If you must, take alcohol in moderation
· Control your stress

· Control your blood sugar and pressure
· Control your weight
· Keep positive emotions
· Take more vegetables, fruits, and grains.
Conclusion Putting your non-HDL Cholesterol under control is one of the ways to live a healthier life. Remember that your heart is involved, that’s more reason why you should put your heart at it.
